In chapter 7, the truth finally comes out about Daisy's affair with Gatsby, but everyone was already in on it but Tom, who had his suspicions but didn't know the extent of his suspicions.
Gatsby believes that Daisy will leave Tom and everything will work out for them and they will get their own happy ending. But Daisy is not so sure, Daisy is confused about what she wants and is not able satisfy Gatsby 's needs by telling Tom that she never truly loved him, stating that she loves both Tom and Gatsby. Tom is shocked by the entire situation, stating he won't let Daisy leave him, there is a possibility he thinks of her as more of a possession than a wife or lover at this point.
The whole chapter is filled with drama, with three major scandals the first being the love triangle between Daisy, Gatsby, and Tom, then the scandal behind Gatsby's money, and ending with Myrtle's death.
Tom's affair with Myrtle showed that he does not in fact care for Daisy the way that Gatsby loves and cares for her, but she still Tom over Gatsby. She obviously does not have the same relationship with Gatsby as she does with Tom. When she is with Gatsby, they act completely in love, unable to stay away from each other and kissing each other whenever possible, but her relationship with Tom resembles that of an old married couple, who may still care for each other in a way that friends care about each other, but knowing that they are no longer in love with each other.
With Nick and Jordan acting moire as bystanders throughout the chapter, Nick makes a comment about Myrtle being "simple minded" for her jealousy over Daisy, implying that he is not a part of the drama and that he is clearly more mature than those who are involved in the scandals.
The chapter ends with Gatsby left outside waiting for Daisy, but Daisy has no intentions of coming outside to meet Gatsby. Instead, she chooses to stay inside with Tom (Daisy's decision to choose Tom over Gatsby) even after stating earlier that she planned to leave him. This could be for a number of reasons, possibly due to guilt of killing Myrtle, or maybe she is just generally afraid of Tom and is unsure of how he would react to her leaving him.
